A magical butterfly adventure on Örö fortress island

Örö Fortress Island is a fantastic destination for butterfly and archipelago enthusiasts! On a guided bicycle tour we will learn about the lives of butterflies and why Örö is one of the best places in Finland to observe them. Over 1,700 of Finland’s 2,650 butterfly species have been recorded here. This excursion offers a great opportunity to capture the most beautiful butterfly photos of the year!

The Örö fortress was built during the era Finland was under the rule of Russian Tsars. Later it was used by the Finnish military and is now a unique tourist attraction.

Departure: from Turku bus station at 8:30 AM

Program: We will drive along scenic countryside roads past Sauvo and Kemiönsaari, continuing to Kasnäs. From there, the Wilson Charter boat takes us to Örö Fortress Island. The sea journey takes about an hour, offering beautiful archipelago views, and with luck, a glimpse of a sea eagle! We will arrive at Örö before noon. Upon arrival we will walk to the former barrack area and enjoy lunch at the restaurant Ravintola 12″.

After lunch we will hop on bicycles and, guided by a local expert, tour the island’s well-known butterfly hotspots.

Return: At 4:00 PM we will take the return boat back to Kasnäs, where the bus awaits. We will arrive in Turku around 7:15 PM.
