Kökar – the gem of Åland archipelago

This trip is about magnificent maritime sceneries, fascinating history, and relaxtion in a unique environment.

Day 1: We will start the bus journey from Turku at 6.20 AM and drive scenic country roads to Korpo, where the ferry departs at 10:00 AM. During the sea voyage, there will be time to enjoy refreshments at your own expense and admire the maritime scenery. Following arrival in Kökar at 12:30 PM, we will have a guided tour of the historical Hamnö area, including St. Anne’s Church and the ruins of a Franciscan monastery. After lunch we will take a boat to the story-filled island of Källskär – the barons paradise often visited by notable guests like Tove Jansson. We will hear stories about the island’s interesting history and explore landmarks such as the so-called “Kälskärskannan”, a unique rock formation from the ice age, the Hermes statue, and the summer estate of Swedish baron “Count” Göran Åkerhielm. In the evening we will relax at the hotel Brudhäll with the option to enjoy the two-storey sauna and a swim in the sea.

Day 2: The morning is free to enjoy the atmosphere of the hotel or optionally join a hike to the seal hunters’ Otterböte settlement from the Bronze Age (1.5 km, bus transfer to the starting point, not suitable for those with limited mobility). At 11:45 AM the ferry departs for Korpo (arrival at 2:15 PM) where we will have lunch and a chance for local shopping before departure at 4:00 PM. We will arrive in Turku at 6:30 PM.
