Örö Fortress Island and Bengtskär Lighthouse

Experience the most spectacular sights of the archipelago in spring in a single day. We will visit Bengtskär Lighthouse and the Fortress Island of Örö.

Departure: Turku bus station, charter bus platform number 10 at 9:00 a.m.

Program: We will drive through rural landscapes to the southern part of Kemiönsaari to Kasnäs, where the ferry departs at 11:00 a.m. During the sea voyage, we will see spring birds and enjoy the archipelago scenery. We will arrive at the unique Örö fortress island in the Archipelago National Park at around 12 p.m. We will start our visit with a buffet lunch, followed by a guided nature trail tour (a walk of about 3 km on the island), during which we get to admire blooming Pasque flowers which are rare in Finland’s natural environment. During the tour, we will also learn about the special features of Örö, where more than 1,600 different butterfly species have been spotted.

In the afternoon, at 2:45 p.m., our journey continues toward the majestic Bengtskär Lighthouse, which is the tallest in the Nordic countries and is celebrating its 120th anniversary this year. In the spring, the lighthouse island is home to hundreds of common eiders, which are accustomed to humans. Predators stay away, and the inhabited nature provides a safe nesting environment. We will explore the lighthouse and learn about its history and the eider ducks. During the visit, we will enjoy Bengtskärt’s famous fish soup. There will also be time to explore this rocky island on your own and visit the lighthouse tower.

Return: At 5:45 p.m. we will take the return boat back to Kasnäs, where the bus awaits. During the sea voyage, we enjoy evening coffee with sweet pastry. We will arrive in Turku around 8:30 p.m.
